JOB TITLE: Efficiency AI Ops Engineer Hybrid
The Efficiency AI Ops Engineer Hybrid joins the Cisco AI and Automation portfolio team to support the Circuit platform, a central engine for productivity and process automation. In this role, you will develop software using Design Thinking Principles, focusing on simplification, UX, and secure coding. You will conduct applied research to evaluate and implement next-generation AI techniques, including automatic model routing, batch capacity management, and fine-tuning open-source LLMs. Day-to-day responsibilities involve building and maintaining AI agents, applying Agentic AI to modernize features, and optimizing LLM token usage. You will utilize tools like Cursor, Copilot, and Claude Code to ensure production-ready code. The work involves solving technical challenges regarding cost, quality, and performance to ensure the platform scales effectively for a wide range of users.
Conduct applied research to evaluate and implement new AI techniques like automatic model routing and batch capacity management.
Propose and evaluate the fine-tuning of open-source LLMs against sharply defined goal metrics.
Build, integrate, and maintain AI agents and features within the Circuit platform to drive process automation.
Apply Agentic AI to modernize existing features within the Circuit platform.
Monitor the AI landscape to stack-rank and integrate new vendor models while de-prioritizing underperforming technologies.
Lead the delivery of high-quality design features from initial concept through to production integration and performance measurement.
Use AI-assisted coding tools to build, validate, and deploy production-level software artifacts that meet security standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years, Master’s degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 1+ year of related experience in Computer Science, AI/ML, or a related technical field.
Proven experience conducting applied research to solve complex technical problems, including the evaluation and integration of new AI/ML technologies.
Solid conceptual and practical knowledge of AI/ML technologies, including LLMs, model fine-tuning, and production environment applications.
Demonstrated experience in software development with a focus on building, testing, and deploying scalable features in a production environment.
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code to build and deploy production-level software artifacts.
Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate and document technical trade-offs regarding cost, quality, and performance.
Experience in AI Ops, MLOps, or building/fine-tuning custom LLMs to achieve well-defined metrics (preferred).
Proven track record of leading technical projects, mentoring junior engineers, and applying Design Thinking principles (preferred).
