JOB TITLE: Distinguished, Software Engineer
The Distinguished, Software Engineer joins the Marketplace Category Strategic Initiatives team to serve as a visionary, hands-on technical leader. This role involves setting engineering standards, defining architectural blueprints, and coding to drive high-impact marketplace initiatives. You will lead the design and implementation of complex, large-scale distributed systems, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable. Key responsibilities include mentoring senior engineers, performing deep technical discovery, and translating business goals into platform investments. You will utilize cloud-native distributed system development, specifically with Azure, GCP, or WCNP, while building full-stack, low-latency systems using microservices. The work focuses on enabling strategic category expansion and differentiated seller experiences within a global e-commerce platform, solving problems related to platform scalability, data protection, and cross-domain integration for third-party sellers.

What we're looking for
Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Deep working knowledge of cloud-native distributed system development; Azure / GCP / WCNP preferred.
Strong experience building full-stack, multi-platform, large-scale, low-latency systems using microservices and distributed architectures.
Proven experience mentoring engineers, technical leaders, and architects, and leading large engineering efforts with strong engineering excellence and system design rigor.
Strong hands-on coding experience with the ability to go deep on architecture and implementation details when needed.
Experience partnering cross-functionally with product, program management, QA, release management, operations, and other engineering teams.
Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area (preferred).
