TL;DR · Director of Supplier Industrialization Engineering

The Director of Supplier Industrialization Engineering leads the end-to-end development, qualification, and production readiness of the supply base across various programs. This role bridges engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing to ensure suppliers meet long-term production rates, costs, and performance requirements from concept through full-rate production. The leader will manage a high-performing team to oversee supplier capability assessments, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), process capability validation, and First Article Inspection (FAI). Key responsibilities include developing multi-year supplier development strategies, managing second-source qualifications, and ensuring compliance with aerospace and defense standards like AS9100, AS9102, AS9145, NADCAP, and ITAR/DFARS. The role requires expertise in manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, forging, composites, and electronics assembly to solve complex production scaling and supply chain resiliency challenges within the defense technology sector.

What you'll do

  • Lead and scale the Supplier Industrialization Engineering team to drive manufacturing readiness from new product introduction through production.
  • Manage end-to-end supplier industrialization processes including capability assessments, APQP, PPAP, and First Article Inspections.
  • Develop multi-year strategies for supplier development and second-source qualification to ensure supply chain resilience and cost competitiveness.
  • Drive supplier engagement for manufacturing process optimization, yield improvement, and capacity planning to support production rate increases.
  • Establish and maintain supplier quality standards in compliance with aerospace and defense requirements like AS9100 and ITAR/DFARS.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators and supplier scorecards to report on industrialization progress and risks to executives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to component obsolescence, technology refresh planning, and supply disruption contingencies.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices across the global supply base.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience in supplier development, quality, manufacturing engineering, or industrialization in complex manufacturing environments.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in a leadership position managing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with APQP/PPAP processes, supplier capability assessments, and production readiness reviews.
  • Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to supplier sites domestically and internationally.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Experience in defense/aerospace with knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, AS9145, NADCAP, and ITAR/DFARS (preferred); experience with multi-tier global supply chains or second-source qualification (preferred).
