The Director of Engineering, Brokerage Platform leads a large, distributed engineering organization responsible for the foundational infrastructure powering equities, options, event contracts, and crypto transactions. This role oversees four interconnected teams: Market Data & Symbology, Trading Platform, Clearing, and Brokerage Infrastructure. You will own the technical strategy, people leadership, and delivery execution for these critical systems, ensuring reliability and scalability for market-critical functions. Day-to-day responsibilities include driving platform modernization, managing high-severity incidents, and prioritizing requests from trading and crypto product teams. The role requires expertise in distributed systems, backend services at scale, Go, Python, and AWS cloud infrastructure. You will solve complex problems related to order routing, settlement, margin, and real-time data layers to maintain the backbone of the brokerage platform.
Own the full engineering strategy and delivery for the Brokerage Platform across all sub-domains.
Lead and develop a large, distributed organization of senior engineers and engineering managers.
Drive platform investments to improve modernization, reliability, and scalability for measurable business outcomes.
Prioritize incoming requests from product teams to protect engineering capacity for high-priority work.
Manage the reliability and operational health of systems running market-critical functions.
Represent the platform's roadmap and capabilities to cross-functional leadership and executive stakeholders.
Champion technical debt reduction through stack rewrites, sharding, and multi-region scaling.
What we're looking for
15+ years of software engineering experience is required.
6+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles is required.
Demonstrated experience as a Director or Senior Director managing large, multi-team engineering organizations is required.
Deep platform engineering background owning foundational backend platforms at scale is required.
Strong background with distributed systems, backend services at scale, Go or Python, and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) is required.
Experience at the intersection of financial services, trading, brokerage, or adjacent high-criticality domains is a strong plus (preferred).
Background from high-performance engineering organizations in fintech, trading, crypto, or large-scale consumer platforms is a strong plus (preferred).
This role is based in Menlo Park, CA, with in-person attendance expected 5 days per week.
