Diffractive Display Engineer (Design & Optimisation)

What you'll do

• Use in-house optical design tools and techniques to develop new displays for augmented reality.
• Develop novel optical design software to enable efficient analysis of advanced optical systems.
• Create new AR waveguide designs optimized for high-volume production at a low cost.
• Design new optical structures and architectures to enhance the performance of AR waveguides.
• Integrate physical measurement data from nanostructures, such as SEM and AFM, into simulation models.
• Work with cross-functional engineering teams to bring up new AR waveguide designs for manufacturing.

What we're looking for

• A PhD in mathematics, physics, or engineering is required, or 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience in physics-based design and optimization for optical systems.
• Proficiency in using Python for computation, optimization, and scripting to interface with simulation tools.
• Knowledge of physical/diffractive optics modeling including FDTD, RCWA, and FMM.
• Knowledge of optical raytracing algorithms and polarization analysis techniques like Jones calculus.
• Experience contributing to collaborative codebases using Git and utilizing AI coding tools.
• Background knowledge in optics including imaging, illumination, geometric optics, radiometry, and photometry.
• Knowledge of optical metrology and manufacturing processes for diffractive or nanophotonics devices.
