TL;DR · AR/VR Design Validation Engineer

The AR/VR Design Validation Engineer joins the hardware team as an optical engineer focused on translating next-generation display technologies into reality. You will own end-to-end optical models to validate measured module performance, ensuring that simulation models accurately predict real-world results. Your daily responsibilities include developing simulation pipelines, defining characterization plans, conducting failure mode analysis, and establishing new validation methodologies for high-volume manufacturing builds. To succeed, you must possess expertise in optical design or metrology, display technologies, thin-film processes, or nanofabrication. You will utilize tools such as LightTools, FDTD, RCWA, Zemax, or Code V, alongside statistical analysis software like JMP, Matlab, or Python. The role addresses the critical technical challenge of closing the simulation-measurement feedback loop to provide actionable design guidance for complex optical components and advanced display systems.

What you'll do

  • Validate end-to-end optical designs for next-generation display components.
  • Develop and validate optical simulation capabilities by closing the loop with real build data.
  • Define characterization pipelines, build plans, and data architectures to track design performance.
  • Establish critical performance metrics and specifications for high-volume manufacturing builds.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and root-cause diagnosis on optical components.
  • Translate technical findings into actionable design guidance and predictive simulation capabilities.
  • Communicate complex results and reports to cross-functional teams in design, manufacturing, and integration.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in optical engineering or related fields.
  • Proven track record of correlating optical simulations with measured hardware performance.
  • Proficiency with at least one optical simulation tool such as LightTools, FDTD, RCWA, Zemax, or Code V.
  • Hands-on experience in optical design/metrology, display technologies, optical sensors, thin-film processes, or nanofabrication.
  • Preferred advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with metasurfaces, diffractive optics, waveguide design, or consumer optical product development.
  • Working knowledge of optical measurement systems and statistical data analysis tools like JMP, Matlab, or Python.
