Development Lab Test Engineer, Amazon Leo OISL joins the Prototyping & Integration team to support the Optical Intersatellite Link organization. This role involves executing environmental and reliability test campaigns to validate hardware performance under launch and on-orbit conditions for satellite systems. You will operate and maintain vibration/shock systems, thermal chambers, and thermal-vacuum equipment while preparing test setups involving fixturing, instrumentation like thermocouples and accelerometers, and cable routing. Key responsibilities include performing fiber optic splicing, monitoring tests for anomalies, and documenting results in test tickets. The role requires technical proficiency with data acquisition systems, vibration controller software, and environmental standards such as MIL-STD-810. You will work on hardware development to ensure the reliability of optical terminal assemblies and Line Replaceable Units through disciplined execution and rigorous qualification testing in a controlled lab environment.
Execute environmental test campaigns including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and vacuum testing.
Operate and maintain equipment such as electrodynamic shakers, shock machines, and thermal chambers.
Prepare test setups involving fixturing, instrumentation wiring, and chamber configuration.
Perform fiber optic splicing and routing for optical hardware integration.
Monitor active tests for anomalies and take corrective actions on equipment faults.
Validate test data and document results in official test tickets.
Maintain lab organization, 5S standards, and inventory of consumables.
Communicate testing status and technical results to cross-functional stakeholders.
What we're looking for
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
An Associate's degree in a technical science or engineering field is required, or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in environmental testing or lab operations.
Experience in product level validation testing including thermal, EMC/EMI, shock, and cycle testing is required.
Experience with test instrumentation such as accelerometers, thermocouples, and data acquisition systems is required.
Ability to read and execute detailed test plans and procedures in a lab or manufacturing environment is required.
Demonstrated ability to work in cleanrooms or controlled environments following ESD and contamination control protocols is required.
Preferred experience includes 3+ years of hardware development, space/aerospace maintenance, or hands-on engineering environment experience.
Preferred skills include fiber optic splicing, familiarity with MIL-STD standards, and operation of vibration or data acquisition software.
