Lab Engineer 1, Environmental Test, Amazon Leo joins the Environmental Test team to ensure satellite components survive harsh space conditions through thermal and vacuum testing. This role focuses on the day-to-day execution of maintenance for automated test racks within the Space Simulation Lab. You will be responsible for planning preventive maintenance, troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and software issues, and performing root cause analysis to minimize production downtime. Key tasks include managing RF test equipment calibration, maintaining hardware documentation in CMMS, and overseeing spare parts inventory like RF cables and test harnesses. The role requires expertise in RF measurement concepts, including S-parameters and insertion loss, as well as proficiency in Python for automating maintenance tasks. You will work within a specialized team to ensure all production test racks remain operational and compliant with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Maintain and troubleshoot automated test rack hardware to ensure continuous production availability.
Plan and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules to minimize impact on manufacturing operations.
Manage the calibration of RF test equipment in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Perform root cause and corrective action analysis for issues identified during production testing.
Maintain accurate hardware documentation, configuration status, and maintenance history in CMMS.
Oversee the readiness and inventory of spare test racks and associated RF components.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for RF equipment calibration and maintenance.
Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to increase equipment uptime.
What we're looking for
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
2+ years of experience in hardware development, test labs, space/aerospace maintenance, or hands-on engineering environments.
2+ years of experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging automated test systems including electrical, mechanical, electronic, and software components.
2+ years of experience in production test station hardware maintenance and factory support.
2+ years of experience with RF test systems and environmental testing focusing on thermal and vacuum processes.
Proficiency in RF measurement concepts, connector handling, and calibration standards such as ISO/IEC 17025.
Ability to perform root cause analysis, manage inventory, and write or debug scripts in Python for automation.
