The Designer Spring Co-op 2027 is a 16-week co-op position within the Product Excellence Office at IBM Software. Joining this centralized enablement team, you will support service design and transformation initiatives to improve how product teams learn, collaborate, and adopt new practices. Your daily responsibilities include conducting service design research, synthesizing interview and survey data into clear themes, and creating artifacts like journey maps, service blueprints, and workflows. You will also design and prototype enablement experiences for onboarding, coaching, and productivity tools. The role requires proficiency with design and collaboration tools such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, Mural, and Adobe Creative Suite. You will solve organizational friction by designing connected experiences across multiple touchpoints to help teams consistently apply modern product development practices and AI-enabled workflows.

What you'll do

Support service design research to identify friction points and opportunities for product teams to adopt new tools.
Synthesize interview results, observations, and usage data into clear themes and actionable recommendations.
Create journey maps, service blueprints, ecosystem maps, and workflows to simplify complex organizational experiences.
Design and prototype enablement experiences including onboarding, learning programs, coaching, and productivity tools.
Participate in workshops and co-creation sessions to align stakeholders on needs and future-state experiences.
Contribute to reusable guidance and standards to help teams apply modern product practices consistently.
Define and track metrics such as adoption, satisfaction, and engagement to improve service outcomes.
Present work clearly to partners and users while incorporating feedback to refine designs.

What we're looking for

Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at the time of application and returning to complete the degree after the co-op.
Must be able to work full-time (40 hours per week) at an IBM location for 16 weeks between Jan 19 - May 7.
Must be able to pause all coursework for the duration of the co-op.
Must be available to start a full-time role between December 2027 and August 2028.
High School Diploma/GED.
Bachelor's Degree (preferred).
Portfolio or work samples demonstrating human-centered design, systems thinking, research synthesis, service design, or UI/UX fundamentals.
