Designer Spring Co-op 2027 As a Designer Spring Co-op 2027, you will join the IBM Software team to create intuitive, accessible, and visually cohesive enterprise software experiences. You will work throughout the full design lifecycle, collaborating with researchers, developers, and product managers to turn ideas into prototypes and validate concepts for global products. The role requires proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Illustrator, or Photoshop, alongside an understanding of user-centered design and accessibility standards. Candidates should possess skills in motion design tools like After Effects and have exposure to HTML/CSS while solving complex problems within the enterprise software domain.

What you'll do

  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma.
  • Develop UI components, icons, and layouts aligned with the Carbon Design System.
  • Document reusable design components and interaction patterns.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers to gather insights and validate designs.
  • Apply accessibility standards and design system guidelines to all work.
  • Participate in design critiques, ideation sessions, and Design Thinking workshops.
  • Present design concepts and rationale to cross-functional stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at the time of application.
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) from January 19 to May 7, 2027, without concurrent coursework.
  • Must be available for full-time employment between December 2027 and August 2028 upon graduation.
  • A portfolio demonstrating design thinking, UI/UX fundamentals, and visual design skills is required.
  • Experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Illustrator, or Photoshop is required.
  • Understanding of user-centered design, accessibility, and responsive design is required.
  • Familiarity with collaborative tools like FigJam, Miro, or Mural (preferred).
  • Exposure to HTML/CSS, motion design tools, or interest in design systems (preferred).
