The Cyber Systems Engineer – Level 2 or Level 3 joins the Space Sector team to perform essential security assessments and network evaluations. The role involves identifying deviations from enclave policies through passive evaluations using tools like STIG Viewer, SCAP, Evaluate-STIG, and STIG Manager. Key responsibilities include authoring security testing documentation, conducting annual security controls assessments, and maintaining RMF body of evidence documentation. The engineer will also update eMASS records, manage Plan of Actions and Milestones, and ensure compliance with NIST, DoD, and NISPOM policies. Required technical skills include IAT II certification, vulnerability management, and system hardening. Preferred expertise includes ACAS, Nessus, Linux administration, Ansible, Python, and experience with Cross-Domain Solutions to secure complex information systems within a defense and space context.
Perform system and network assessments to identify deviations from acceptable configurations and enclave policies.
Conduct compliance audits using tools such as STIG Viewer, SCAP, Evaluate-STIG, and STIG Manager.
Author and review security testing documentation, including assessment plans, test cases, and cyber test methodologies.
Conduct annual security controls assessments to support continuous monitoring.
Provide technical input for Security Assessment Reports (SAR) and Risk Assessment Reports (RAR).
Update eMASS records in coordination with the System Program Office and government RMF Cybersecurity Engineers.
Maintain RMF body of evidence documentation for operational processes and site-specific information.
Prepare and update artifacts for Assessment and Authorization activities and Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M).
What we're looking for
Must possess an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at the time of application.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must hold a current DoD 8570.01M IAT II certification (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, GSEC, or SSCP).
Level 2 requires a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience, or a Master's and 3 years, or a PhD and 0 years.
Level 3 requires a Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience, or a Master's and 3 years, or a PhD and 1 year.
Must have experience with cybersecurity principles, risk management, security assessments, vulnerability management, and system hardening.
Must have experience with cybersecurity frameworks, standards, tools, or technologies used to assess and secure information systems.
STEM degree with 8 years of experience, Master's with 7 years, or PhD with 4 years is preferred (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree) (preferred).
