The Confluent Staff Software Engineer - Infrastructure joins the Secure Compute Team to build and operate the foundational infrastructure layer for Confluent Cloud. What you'll do

Define and drive the technical direction for platform architecture, runtime capabilities, and security models.
Design and implement platform APIs and Kubernetes controllers using Go for workload lifecycle management.
Lead high-impact initiatives in workload scheduling, networking architectures, and fleet-wide resource management.
Drive technical design reviews to ensure services are secure by default and aligned with platform objectives.
Mentor engineers through technical leadership, code reviews, and the promotion of best practices.
Own operational excellence for critical services, including availability, reliability, performance, and incident response.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Master's Degree (preferred).
10+ years of relevant experience delivering scalable backend, infrastructure, or platform software in production.
Proven experience building and operating large-scale, highly available distributed systems.
Deep expertise in Kubernetes, including controller development, operator patterns, and multi-region/multi-cluster architectures.
Strong proficiency in Go, Scala, C++, or other statically typed languages for production-grade services and control planes.
Experience with multi-tenant platform architectures, security/isolation patterns, and secure container runtimes like Kata or Cloud Hypervisor.
Experience with public cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.
Demonstrated technical leadership, mentorship experience, and ability to drive cross-functional architectural alignment.
Familiarity with storage systems, networking, or security engineering (preferred).
Contributions to open-source infrastructure or cloud platform projects (preferred).
