JOB TITLE: Confluent Senior Software Engineer II , Secure Compute As a Senior Software Engineer II within the Secure Compute team, you will join IBM Confluent to build a multi-tenant, multi-cloud, polyglot, cloud-native compute substrate. You will own the design and implementation of complex backend services in a microservices-based environment, driving end-to-end technical delivery from requirements to production operation. What you'll do

Lead the design and implementation of complex backend services in a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.
Make architecture and technical decisions to balance reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
Drive projects end-to-end from initial requirements and design through implementation and production rollout.
Improve service reliability by defining SLOs/SLAs and strengthening system observability.
Define APIs, integration points, and data models to ensure platform coherence and evolvability.
Identify and implement platform improvements, including tooling, automation, and engineering processes.
Mentor other engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical guidance.

What we're looking for

Master's Degree (preferred).
7+ years of industry experience designing, building, and supporting backend systems in production.
Proficiency in a major programming language such as Python, Go, C/C++, or Java.
Strong knowledge of Python runtime environments, including virtual environments and package management.
Experience running services in public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure) using containers and orchestration like Kubernetes.
Track record of technical leadership, including driving projects and influencing architecture across teams.
Experience with observability and operational excellence, including metrics, logging, tracing, and incident response.
Expertise in other Language Runtimes/VMs such as JVM/WASM (preferred).
Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, highly available, low-latency systems (preferred).
Deep hands-on technical expertise in distributed systems and container sandboxing technologies (preferred).
On-call experience handling critical systems (preferred).
