JOB TITLE: Principal Software Engineer The Principal Software Engineer joins the Traffic team to build and manage the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. What you'll do

  • Architect, design, and develop high-performance software for the Confluent Cloud network data plane.
  • Lead a team of engineers to deliver high-quality software projects and technical initiatives.
  • Drive the technical roadmap and execution for networking, cloud infrastructure, and multi-tenancy projects.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across microservices, containers, and virtualization in AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Engage with cloud providers and product teams to solve business problems through technical input.
  • Build upon open source software and actively engage with the upstream community.
  • Optimize network data plane performance, scalability, and costs for containerized workloads.

What we're looking for

  • Master's Degree (preferred).
  • 12+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
  • Experience driving technical vision and roadmaps as an architect for large-scale platforms or infrastructure teams.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers and working cross-functionally to deliver complex infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in C++, Go, Python, or other statically typed languages.
  • Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and building/managing Layer 7 proxies like Envoy.
  • Open source contributions to CNCF projects (preferred).
  • Experience with Kubernetes Networking (preferred).
  • Strong networking background combined with software engineering experience (preferred).
  • Education in computer science or a related field (preferred).
