TL;DR · Component Engineer Support Specialist

The Component Engineer Support Specialist joins the engineering team to manage parts and material issues for space flight, military defense, and mission-critical systems. The role involves processing New Part Requests within the Windchill ePDM framework, updating existing records, and ensuring components meet established engineering standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing datasheets, military specifications, and technical drawings to determine configuration control and write accurate part descriptions. You will evaluate electrical, electronic, mechanical hardware, and chemical materials like paints and adhesives while performing lifecycle and availability analysis using Silicon Expert or IHS Haystack tools. The position requires proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, and experience with Product Data Management systems. Candidates must possess strong communication skills to coordinate tasks across multi-disciplinary teams while managing end-of-life and obsolescence management for various hardware components.

What you'll do

  • Process New Part Requests (NPRs) using the Windchill ePDM configuration management database.
  • Update or correct existing parts in the database to ensure they meet component engineering standards.
  • Analyze datasheets, military specifications, and technical drawings to determine part configuration control.
  • Write accurate part descriptions based on parameters extracted from manufacturer websites and industry specifications.
  • Distinguish between basic model numbers and orderable part numbers to identify specific packaging and configurations.
  • Perform lifecycle and availability analysis using tools like Silicon Expert or IHS Haystack.
  • Process GIDEP reports to determine if electronic parts or mechanical hardware are impacted by issues.
  • Manage end-of-life (EOL) and obsolescence for components in coordination with suppliers.

What we're looking for

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in Component Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Electronic Parts Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical/electronic parts, mechanical hardware, and chemical materials like paints and adhesives.
  • Experience reading and interpreting manufacturer datasheets and technical documentation.
  • Experience with supply chain management regarding End-of-Life (EOL) and obsolescence.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (especially Excel) and Product Data Management (PDM) applications.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently with attention to detail.
