JOB TITLE: Chief Data Architect
The Chief Data Architect joins the Unified Data Layer team to lead a large-scale data and AI implementation within the defense contracting sector. This senior role involves designing the enterprise data ontology strategy, defining architectural principles, and establishing governance for cross-functional teams. You will own the strategic design for an enterprise Palantir implementation, integrating approximately 100 legacy systems including ERP, PLM, and supply chain platforms. Daily responsibilities include selecting architectural tools, mentoring architects, and defining metadata strategies, naming conventions, and security models. You must utilize Palantir Foundry, Ontology APIs, and graph platforms to build a high-caliber engineering core. The role solves complex data integration challenges by creating a unified conceptual model that supports diverse use cases across finance, operations, engineering, and strategic planning.
Design the enterprise data ontology strategy and conceptual model for all Palantir workspaces and integrations.
Define the data integration architecture for approximately 100 legacy systems, including ERP, PLM, and supply chain systems.
Establish enterprise standards for data modeling, metadata management, naming conventions, and security compliance.
Develop and lead the architecture operating model and governance framework for cross-functional engineering teams.
Embed architects within product teams to translate architectural vision into executable technical requirements.
Lead design reviews for complex integration challenges, ontology extensions, and high-level architectural decisions.
Create a comprehensive training and mentorship program to build architect capability and technical culture.
Partner with IT leadership to codify data governance policies and integration patterns across the organization.
What we're looking for
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree with 15 years of related experience, a Graduate Degree with 13 years of related experience, or 19 years of related experience without a degree.
Must be a U.S. citizen as the position may require the ability to obtain a security clearance.
Experience building and scaling engineering organizations, including hiring, training, and career development (preferred).
Demonstrated experience with Palantir or similar graph platforms, with Palantir experience preferred (preferred).
Proven ability to design ontologies, taxonomies, and data models for complex domain semantics (preferred).
Experience integrating 10+ systems across heterogeneous platforms like ERP, PLM, and legacy systems (preferred).
Experience working in heavily regulated environments such as defense, finance, utilities, or healthcare (preferred).
