JOB TITLE: Careers - Staff Data Scientist, Pricing The Staff Data Scientist, Pricing joins the Data Science team at Block to own modeling and experimentation for global Square pricing. What you'll do

  • Model price elasticity and willingness-to-pay across different segments, geographies, and payment methods.
  • Design and execute pricing experiments using A/B testing, difference-in-differences, and bandit-based dynamic tests.
  • Build intelligence for agentic deal tooling to provide accurate rate recommendations and mispricing detection.
  • Evaluate and monitor AI systems for accuracy, bias, and drift in production environments.
  • Develop and maintain self-serve dashboards and curated datasets for price realization and margin leakage analysis.
  • Write code to process and combine diverse data sources into curated ETL datasets for the broader team.
  • Measure the impact of AI-driven pricing automation using causal inference methods.

What we're looking for

  • A bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, economics, or a similar STEM field with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • A graduate degree in statistics, data science, economics, or a similar STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Fluency in causal inference and experimentation with hands-on experience modeling price elasticity or willingness-to-pay.
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL and data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker.
  • Experience with scripting and data analysis programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Solid understanding of statistical concepts including selection bias, probability distributions, and conditional probabilities.
  • Comfort leveraging AI tools and a working understanding of generative AI architectures like LLMs and RAG systems.
  • Prior exposure to risk-based pricing, pricing science, or deal pricing analytics (preferred).
