Backend Engineer

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain risk infrastructure for high-value features like Instant ACH in the US market.
• Design technical solutions that optimize for high throughput and low p99 end-to-end latency for real-time fraud checks.
• Build and manage scalable, resilient distributed systems using Java, Kotlin, or other JVM-based languages.
• Process real-time events using technologies like Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink.
• Optimize database performance through deep knowledge of JDBC, database internals, and query optimization.
• Collaborate with Data Scientists to deploy machine learning models into production for transaction monitoring.
• Develop systems to identify and prevent financial crimes including fraud, Sanctions, and Anti-Money Laundering (AML).
• Take end-to-end ownership of projects from initial design through to production monitoring and maintenance.

What we're looking for

• Experience of 4+ years with Java, Kotlin, or other JVM-based languages.
• Deep knowledge of the Spring framework.
• Ability to design technical solutions that optimize for both throughput and speed while maintaining low end-to-end latency.
• Deep understanding of JDBC, database internals, and query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink for real-time event processing.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and designing scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Familiarity with machine learning basics such as data pipelines, feature engineering, precision, and recall.
