Senior Backend Engineer

What you'll do

• Design and implement complex backend features while making architectural trade-offs between modular monoliths and independent services.
• Define and uphold standards for code style, maintainability, testing, APIs, and operational readiness.
• Mentor associate and intermediate engineers through code reviews and by removing technical blockers.
• Diagnose and prevent performance and reliability issues in high-scale, distributed systems.
• Integrate agentic AI into production engineering workflows to improve outcomes and coach others on its use.
• Partner with product managers and designers to translate user needs into technical requirements.
• Communicate complex technical ideas clearly in an asynchronous, remote-first environment.

What we're looking for

• Strong command of backend architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning in complex environments.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages and a deep understanding of systems programming.
• Experience designing or evolving modular backend boundaries, bounded contexts, and migration-safe architectures.
• Proven experience building or operating agentic systems in production beyond simple prompt engineering.
• Ability to lead through technical judgment and clear written communication in an asynchronous environment.
• Experience with high-throughput distributed systems, concurrency, or profiling (preferred).
• Hands-on experience with containerized production operations such as Kubernetes (preferred).
• Deep database performance knowledge including PostgreSQL or ClickHouse (preferred).
