Backbone Network Engineering Principal

What you'll do

• Define and evolve reference architectures for first-party data center networks including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Design network and application delivery architectures for large-scale sites serving multiple business units.
• Own backbone and internet connectivity, including interconnects between data centers and public cloud environments like AWS and GCP.
• Manage the hardware infrastructure lifecycle by evaluating, selecting, and transitioning to new network hardware models.
• Build and maintain network automation and tooling using Ansible, Python, and Git-based workflows.
• Lead network security architecture, including edge hardening and the design of security features.
• Drive the deployment and tuning of edge protocols, including mTLS, HTTP/2, and cipher suite changes.
• Run software certification and vulnerability management for network platforms while coordinating remediation with vendors.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years of experience in network engineering or architecture at data center or service-provider scale.
• Proficiency in Ansible, Python, and Git-based development workflows.
• Deep expertise in large-scale data center and WAN/backbone design including BGP, EVPN/VXLAN, and L2/L3 fabrics.
• Experience in load balancing and application delivery design, specifically with F5 (BIG-IP) and certificate management.
• Hands-on experience with firewalls, TLS termination at the edge, and secure protocol configuration.
• Experience with hardware lifecycle planning, including platform evaluation, refresh, and migration.
• Experience with new GPU cluster builds, including topology planning and capacity modeling.
• Vendor familiarity with Cisco, F5, Juniper, and Ciena (preferred); familiarity with public cloud connectivity (preferred).
