JOB TITLE: Automation & Controls Specialist (Starship) The Production Automation and Controls Specialist supports the development and construction of tooling for Starship and Super Heavy Booster. The specialist commissions and integrates physical hardware including wire harnesses, PCBs, custom enclosures, PLCs, data acquisition systems, pneumatic systems, and sensors. Key responsibilities include programming PLCs and HMIs, drafting electrical and fluids schematics, and analyzing data to assess electrical system functions. Required skills include experience with industrial bus protocols like Modbus, Profinet, and EtherNet/IP, as well as C/C++, Python, and JavaScript. What you'll do

Own and execute industrial automation projects from inception to completion.
Program PLCs and HMIs according to specific engineering designs.
Commission and integrate hardware including wire harnesses, PCBs, and pneumatic systems.
Develop and upgrade data acquisition and control systems for production assets.
Draft and redline electrical and fluids schematics.
Analyze system data to assess the function of electrical systems.
Implement long-term reliability improvements for production systems.
Provide technical guidance and support for controls technicians and engineering groups.

What we're looking for

High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
1+ years of experience in a controls technician or specialist role.
U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee eligible for Department of State authorization.
Occupational trade school qualification in an instrumentation or electrical-based field (preferred).
Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and UL508A codes (preferred).
Experience programming PLCs and HMIs (preferred).
Experience designing and installing instrumentation and control systems in hazardous areas (preferred).
Ability to work at heights up to 500ft, in confined spaces, and with an air purifying respirator.
