The Associate Director Maintenance provides strategic and operational leadership for the maintenance and engineering function at a manufacturing site. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and compliance of manufacturing and utility equipment while leading a team of approximately 10 to 15 professionals. Key responsibilities include managing preventive and corrective maintenance activities, overseeing calibration programs, and executing engineering projects such as equipment upgrades and process improvements. The candidate will manage budgets, contractor relationships, and root cause analyses while ensuring adherence to GMP, quality, and safety regulations. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline and experience in regulated manufacturing environments like biopharmaceuticals or medical devices. Core competencies include reliability engineering, asset management principles, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives within a high-performance team environment.
Lead and develop the site maintenance function to maximize equipment reliability, performance, and uptime.
Manage preventive and corrective maintenance activities across manufacturing and utility systems.
Drive maintenance excellence and reliability engineering programs to reduce downtime and improve performance.
Plan and execute engineering projects, including equipment upgrades and process improvements.
Develop and manage engineering budgets and capital expenditure projects.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, quality, environmental, health, and safety requirements.
Lead investigations, root cause analyses, and CAPA implementation for continuous improvement.
Manage contractor relationships, negotiate service agreements, and supervise external service providers.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 6 years' combined experience within engineering, manufacturing, or maintenance environments.
Previous leadership experience managing engineering, maintenance, or technical teams.
Strong knowledge of maintenance systems, reliability engineering, and asset management principles.
Experience within a regulated manufacturing environment such as biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, or medical device industries.
Proven experience managing budgets, projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
Strong understanding of GMP, regulatory compliance, and quality systems.
Professional engineering accreditation or membership of a recognized engineering body (preferred); experience with Maintenance Excellence Programs (preferred).
