The ASE Observability SRE - Seattle joins the Apple Service Engineering team to provide world-class observability capabilities for global services like iCloud and Siri. This role focuses on championing the availability, performance, and scaling of customer-facing production services by building the next generation of cloud and systems monitoring infrastructure. You will own customer SLA/SLO delivery, manage global traffic routing, and maintain zero-downtime deployment pipelines. Key responsibilities include proactive observability through building dashboards and alerting frameworks, as well as conducting deep root-cause analysis during incident responses. You will utilize a technical stack including Linux, Python, Bash, Go, Rust, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Helm, and Spinnaker. The work involves managing complex infrastructure across geographically dispersed data centers, including AliCloud services like ACK Kubernetes, ECS, and RDS.

What you'll do

Own and defend availability, latency, and performance metrics for customer-facing production services.
Maintain and optimize production environments including AliCloud services and internal infrastructure.
Manage global traffic routing, content delivery, and load balancing to minimize user latency.
Maintain zero-downtime deployment pipelines for continuous and safe feature shipping.
Build customer-centric dashboards and alerting frameworks using Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
Implement automated scaling rules to handle traffic spikes while managing infrastructure costs.
Drive incident response and conduct deep root-cause analysis across software and systems.

What we're looking for

B.S. in Computer Science or a related field.
Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
Minimum 10+ years of industry experience.
5+ years of experience in an SRE/DevOps role supporting external, production-grade web services, APIs, or SaaS applications.
Proven experience developing production-grade software in Python.
Hands-on experience deploying and operating user-facing applications with strong container orchestration experience (or equivalent Kubernetes experience).
Solid experience using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and version-controlled production environments.
Experience/knowledge with the Prometheus ecosystem.
Experience with Bash, Go, and Rust (preferred).
Experience with Pulumi (preferred).
Experience with Spinnaker (preferred).
Experience managing client data persistence, backups, and failovers using cloud databases (preferred).
Prior on-call experience supporting large-scale, distributed systems (preferred).
