The role requires proficiency in modern C++ and a strong background in compiler backend technologies like instruction selection, scheduling, and register allocation. You will solve technical challenges to ensure high-performance execution across all devices equipped with a GPU.

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, and productize backend compiler optimizations for Apple Silicon GPUs.
  • Resolve complex performance and correctness issues escalated by graphics, gaming, and machine learning partners.
  • Partner with architects to co-design instruction sets and micro-architecture features based on compiler prototypes.
  • Validate compiler support for future GPU architectures using simulators and pre-silicon platforms.
  • Model and quantify the performance impact of proposed hardware features on representative workloads.
  • Develop an LLVM-based compiler backend that generates optimized binaries for graphics and compute tasks.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs regarding hardware features to both hardware and software stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • Experience with modern C++ programming.
  • BS with 3+ years experience, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field.
  • Strong background in compiler backend technologies (LLVM preferred).
  • Knowledge of GPU architectures and how they differ from CPU architectures.
  • Demonstrated autonomy and ownership resolving ambiguous, open-ended technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience developing LLVM-based compiler backends (preferred).
  • Experience with instruction selection, instruction schedulers, and register allocators for CPU or GPU compiler backends (preferred).
