As an AI Methodology Design/CAD Engineer within the Silicon Technologies group, you will join the Hardware Technology CAD team to integrate AI methodologies into chip design processes. You will partner with design teams and CAD flow owners to identify complex challenges in areas such as custom and analog design, RTL, front end, verification, physical design, timing, extraction, and signoff. Your daily work involves building and evaluating AI solutions, tuning agent prompts and skills, developing CAD tools that allow agents to interact with EDA tools, and evaluating vendor offerings against in-house solutions. To succeed, you must possess experience in VLSI design, Python programming, and using AI coding assistants. Preferred skills include building LLM applications, utilizing Model Context Protocol servers, and applying machine learning to predict timing or power within the chip design flow from spec to tapeout.

What you'll do

Identify complex chip design challenges and determine where AI solutions can provide improvements.
Build and evaluate AI solutions for custom, analog, RTL, physical design, timing, and signoff tasks.
Tune AI agents by optimizing prompts, tools, agent skills, and model selection.
Develop CAD tools and flows that enable AI agents to interact with design data and EDA tools.
Evaluate the quality of AI tools from external vendors against in-house solutions.
Establish evaluation data and quality metrics to identify where AI models or agents fail.
Drive organizational efficiency by integrating AI capabilities into the chip delivery process.

What we're looking for

Bachelor of Science degree and 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
Experience using AI tools, such as AI coding assistants, in engineering work.
Experience in VLSI design, CAD tools, or CAD flows.
Experience in Python programming.
Experience building LLM applications or tool-using AI agents, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers (preferred).
Experience evaluating or tuning AI systems, such as agent performance or output quality (preferred).
Experience applying machine learning to design data, such as predicting timing or power (preferred).
Understanding of the chip design flow from spec to tapeout and knowledge of industry-standard EDA tools (preferred).
