Writing Systems Engineer
The Writing Systems Engineer designs and implements engineering solutions for industrial ink delivery and print systems. This role involves developing, characterizing, and validating writing system components including printheads, pens, fluid delivery subsystems, and electronics. The engineer bridges mechanical, electrical, firmware, and fluidics disciplines to ensure reliable ink delivery and high-quality printing performance. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating test plans for reliability and durability, performing root cause analysis on manufacturing or customer-reported issues, and managing product lifecycle activities like design reviews and production ramps. The role requires proficiency in Python, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab, and various measurement systems such as oscilloscopes. Candidates must possess skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data interpretation to solve complex problems related to thermal inkjet technologies, capillary systems, and ink delivery architectures within the industrial printing domain.
Design components for writing systems including printheads, ink delivery subsystems, and mechanical/electrical interfaces.
Define architecture requirements, performance specifications, and validation criteria for industrial printing products.
Develop test plans to characterize print quality, jetting reliability, and long-term system performance.
Conduct root cause analysis for manufacturing and customer-reported issues to implement corrective actions.
Evaluate interactions between ink, firmware, electronics, and fluidics to ensure robust system integration.
Create automated test and data collection methodologies to analyze results and provide technical recommendations.
Support product lifecycle activities including design reviews, risk assessments, and manufacturing readiness.
Partner with application engineers and customers to troubleshoot field issues and improve product performance.
What we're looking for
A four-year or graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
Typically 2–4 years of work experience in product development, printing systems, fluidics, electromechanical systems, electrical design, or test development; or an advanced degree with little experience.
Proficiency in experimental design, test planning, DOE, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
Experience with root cause analysis, debugging, corrective action, and issue resolution.
Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, JMP, Minitab, or similar data analysis tools.
Experience with oscilloscopes, measurement systems, automated test methods, and data collection methodologies.
Knowledge of new product development, manufacturing readiness, production ramp, engineering change management, quality systems, and supplier qualification.
Experience with thermal inkjet (TIJ) or industrial printing systems (preferred); knowledge of fluidics, capillary systems, and ink delivery architectures (preferred).
