Vehicle Energy Systems Lead
As part of the Maritime Division, the Vehicle Energy Systems Lead will drive the energy subsystem for a maritime autonomous vehicle. This role involves owning energy storage, distribution, regulation, and external charging from concept through production to ensure maximum vehicle endurance and power reliability. The successful candidate will design battery systems, manage power budgets across consuming subsystems, define electrical interfaces, and oversee manufacturing transitions. Key responsibilities include mentoring engineers, managing project schedules, and representing the subsystem in technical meetings. Required expertise includes a degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields, along with experience in power electronics, high-voltage systems, and lithium-ion battery technology for marine or aerospace applications. The role addresses the critical challenge of enabling ultra-long-range autonomous operation by ensuring safe, efficient power delivery to all vehicle components within a complex maritime environment.
Own the energy subsystem architecture including storage, distribution, management, regulation, and external charging.
Drive the design and development of energy storage systems for ultra-long-range autonomous operation.
Manage power distribution, bus architecture, and energy regulation to ensure safe delivery to all subsystems.
Design external charging interfaces and solutions to facilitate rapid vehicle turnaround.
Manage the energy budget and power allocation across all consuming vehicle components.
Define electrical interfaces between the energy subsystem and other integrated vehicle systems.
Oversee subsystem schedule and cost performance through prototype, LRIP, and FRP phases.
Provide technical mentorship to engineers and lead design-for-manufacturability efforts with production teams.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or equivalent.
5+ years of experience in energy or power systems for marine, aerospace, or robotic systems.
Experience taking energy or power systems through full product development cycles.
Demonstrated experience with battery systems, power electronics, or energy management.
Experience transitioning designs from prototype to production.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
Experience with large-format battery systems (lithium-ion or equivalent) (preferred).
Working knowledge of high-voltage power systems in marine or defense applications; experience with autonomous vehicles, safety standards, or maritime robotics (preferred).
