Transport Network Engineer III
The Transport Network Engineer joins the Global Solutions Management-Operations II team to provide sustainment, maintenance, and problem management services ensuring the reliable availability of Department of Defense networks. This role involves designing network architectures, developing methods of procedure, performing hardware upgrades, and managing technical refreshes. Day-to-day responsibilities include fault isolation, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting across various transport platforms while coordinating with vendors and customers to resolve issues. The position requires expertise in SONET Optical/Fiber Transport, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), and cryptographic systems. Candidates must be proficient with specific hardware including CIENA 6500, Corestream, Cisco NCS2K, and SYCAMORE ODXC. The role addresses the critical challenge of maintaining secure, uninterrupted command and control communications for national security organizations through advanced network engineering and infrastructure management.
Design and modify network architecture to support hardware/software technical refreshes and upgrades.
Install new network hardware components on operational nodes and monitor impacts on customer traffic.
Perform fault isolation, analysis, and troubleshooting across SONET, DWDM, TDM, and cryptographic systems.
Conduct root cause analysis for network issues in coordination with vendors and internal teams.
Maintain the Mission Support Services database to reflect real-time network status and configurations.
Manage authorized service interruptions by collecting site data and coordinating technician dispatches.
Provide technical documentation and situational awareness reporting to customers and management.
What we're looking for
Must possess an active Secret security clearance.
Must possess DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, Security+ CE or equivalent.
Must have a BS degree and 4-8 years of experience, or a Masters and 2-6 years of experience (or equivalent).
Proficiency in transport platforms including CIENA 6500, CIENA Corestream, Cisco NCS2K, CISCO MSPP, SYCAMORE ODXC, and XTERA.
Experience analyzing section, line, and path events on Optical networks.
Experience with end-to-end system loopback testing and troubleshooting on Transport networks.
Experience with ports and protocols for DWDM and SONET technologies.
Proficiency in Ciena and/or Cisco configuration, troubleshooting, and design (preferred); experience with Power systems and Network Timing (preferred).
