The Transport Network Engineer III joins the Global Solutions Management-Operations II team to support the Defense Information System Network. This role focuses on the sustainment, maintenance, and problem management of secure Department of Defense networks. The engineer will perform network design, implement hardware like shelves and cards, and deploy changes while monitoring traffic behavior. Key responsibilities include fault isolation, root cause analysis, and updating the Mission Support Services database. The position requires proficiency in SONET Optical/Fiber Transport, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, Time Division Multiplexing, and cryptographic systems. Candidates must utilize technologies including CIENA 6500, CIENA Corestream, Cisco NCS2K, and SYCAMORE ODXC. The work involves managing physical cable plants, network timing, and Layer 1 and Layer 2 troubleshooting to ensure uninterrupted availability of critical command and control services.
Design and modify network architecture to support hardware and software technical refreshes.
Implement new network hardware components on operational nodes and deploy network changes.
Perform fault isolation, analysis, and troubleshooting across SONET, DWDM, TDM, and cryptographic systems.
Conduct Root Cause Analysis for network issues and engage with vendors and customers for resolution.
Update ServiceNow tickets with accurate documentation and provide situational awareness reporting to management.
Maintain the Mission Support Services database to reflect real-time network status.
Coordinate Authorized Service Interruption activities by collecting site data and scheduling maintenance windows.
Interact with vendor Technical Assistance Centers to gather data for hardware replacement orders.
What we're looking for
Possess an active Secret security clearance.
Possess DoD 8750 certification at IAT level II, Security+ CE or equivalent.
Require a BS degree and 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Masters with 2-6 years of relevant experience.
Proficient in one or more platforms: CIENA 6500, CIENA Corestream, Cisco NCS2K, CISCO MSPP 15454/15310, SYCAMORE ODXC 16K/9K, XTERA, or ancillary equipment.
Experience analyzing section, line, and path events on Optical networks.
Experience with end-to-end system loopback testing and troubleshooting on Transport networks.
Experience with ports and protocols for DWDM and SONET technologies.
Experience working with service providers and/or enterprise Transport systems utilizing CISCO/CIENA devices.
