TL;DR · Technical Staff Thermal Architect

Technical Staff, Thermal Architect joins the Engineering Technologist team to architect next-generation large-scale AI infrastructure. This role involves designing end-to-end solutions from servers to data centers, specifically focusing on accelerated compute, AI fabrics, and AI-optimized storage. You will drive the architecture for air and liquid cooling, power distribution, and heat rejection systems to optimize cost, energy efficiency, and performance in dense IT environments. Key responsibilities include developing long-term technology strategies, defining hardware topologies for AI workloads, and proposing BOMs and SKUs. You must possess advanced knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal science. The role requires collaborating with customers, suppliers, and ODMs to solve complex systems challenges, ensuring that hardware designs meet rigorous manufacturing processes and tolerance controls for high-volume production environments.

What you'll do

  • Drive the architecture of end-to-end solutions from servers to data centers, including air and liquid cooling.
  • Innovate power-centric solutions for high-density IT environments to optimize cost, energy efficiency, and performance.
  • Design air, liquid, and other cooling solutions based on specific data center and customer requirements.
  • Define hardware topologies and architectures optimized for high-performance AI workloads.
  • Engage with high-profile AI customers to tune systems and optimize solutions for their specific applications.
  • Propose BOMs and SKUs to meet technical requirements and review them with engineering teams.
  • Lead technology investigations and strategic analyses to influence product architecture and long-term technology strategies.
  • Author architecture specifications to guide the development of future products and high-volume manufacturing processes.

What we're looking for

  • Experience collaborating with customers on architectural and design requirements spanning IT Systems to Datacenter Thermal technologies.
  • Advanced working knowledge of heat transfer and the ability to analyze component/system level problems and apply advanced cooling technologies.
  • Solid understanding of and relationships with key suppliers of data center power and thermal management components.
  • Ability to collaborate with technology partners and supply base on cutting-edge technology development and work with ODMs on mechanical, thermal, and electrical aspects.
  • Understanding of competitive and business needs while developing technical solutions, including knowledge of manufacturing processes and tolerance control requirements.
  • Experience interfacing effectively with suppliers to coordinate research and information on products or services of value to the company.
  • Ability to travel 20%-30% to assess customer requirements and develop blueprints.
  • 15+ years of related experience (preferred); Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on thermal science, fluid dynamics, and/or heat transfer (preferred).
