Systems Integration Engineer joins the Platform Integration team within DoorDash Labs to develop robust, scalable integration processes for robotics and automation systems. This role involves collaborating with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software engineers to ensure robots function as cohesive units by defining subsystem interfaces, building test benches, and verifying platform-level readiness. Key responsibilities include designing HIL systems, creating wiring harnesses, implementing automated test sequences for components like batteries and drivetrain systems, and leading cross-boundary debugging. The ideal candidate possesses a degree in a relevant engineering field and experience with hardware/software integration for complex mechatronics or autonomous vehicles. Required skills include proficiency in Python or Linux shell scripts, knowledge of digital electronics and communication buses like I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN, and experience using Git and Jenkins to manage system-level validation and documentation.
Define interface contracts, integration risks, and system-level validation checks for new subsystem designs.
Design and build HIL systems and physical test benches including wiring harnesses for platform testing.
Implement automated test sequences to stress-test batteries, drivetrain, thermal management, sensors, and embedded systems.
Lead system-level debugging for issues that cross subsystem boundaries or lack a single point of failure.
Identify integration gaps that impact vehicle safety, performance, and functionality across multi-disciplinary teams.
Document integration procedures, test results, known issues, and platform readiness for manufacturing and validation teams.
What we're looking for
BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
5+ years of experience in hardware/software integration, system integration, vehicle bring-up, or hardware validation for complex mechatronics systems.
Proven experience troubleshooting complex physical systems and diagnosing electrical, communication, and signal integrity issues.
Proficiency in basic scripting using Python or Linux shell scripts for testing, data logging, and diagnostics.
Solid understanding of digital electronics, embedded peripherals, and communication buses such as I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
Ability to read board schematics and wiring diagrams for hardware electrical systems and physical bring-up.
Experience using source control and build automation tools like Git and Jenkins.
Ability to communicate technical details effectively across multi-disciplinary teams including software, controls, and hardware.
