As a Systems Debug Engineer – Data Center HWE, you will join a cross-functional lab team providing hands-on support for data center development programs and infrastructure. You will manage the lifecycle of custom and OEM hardware by setting up systems, running functional tests, documenting results, and creating triage runbooks to enable critical lab deployments. Your daily work involves triaging complex issues across SoC, firmware, and interconnect layers while piloting proof-of-concept hardware for at-scale deployment. To succeed, you must possess expertise in server architecture, board-level debug, and failure analysis of memory subsystems and power management. You will utilize Python, Bash, and Ansible to automate provisioning and configuration management. The role focuses on solving technical hurdles in the early product development cycle, specifically addressing performance degradation or connectivity failures within high-density server environments and complex hardware-software interactions.
Triage and root-cause complex hardware, firmware, and interconnect issues across the product development lifecycle.
Build, maintain, and debug both custom and OEM data center hardware components.
Pilot proof-of-concept hardware and software to prepare new platforms for large-scale deployment.
Develop scripts and tools to automate hardware provisioning, log analysis, and benchmarking frameworks.
Perform functional checks on pre-production hardware and document results for lab deployments.
Create reports, dashboards, and presentations regarding failure analysis and status for leadership teams.
Test hardware under various environmental conditions to evaluate power and temperature performance.
What we're looking for
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
4–8 years of experience in systems engineering, hardware integration, or manufacturing engineering in a server or HPC environment.
Hands-on experience with SoC troubleshooting, board-level debug, failure analysis, and diagnostics for system interconnects, memory subsystems, and power management.
Experience working in lab environments at scale.
Strong server architecture expertise including component firmware upgrade processes.
Experience debugging hardware, firmware, and OS levels using SEL, kernel logs, system logs, and debug commands.
Working knowledge of provisioning and boot processes such as UEFI, DHCP, DNS, and PXE/Netboot.
Proficiency in Python and Bash for automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and validation workflows.
MS degree with 3–5 years of relevant experience (preferred).
NPI experience with data center server hardware, custom ASICs/SoCs, or high-density server environments (preferred).
Experience troubleshooting complex issues where software symptoms originate in server hardware or firmware (preferred).
