TL;DR · System Embedded Software Engineer, Security

System Embedded Software Engineer — Security is responsible for designing, developing, and validating secure embedded software, firmware, and driver solutions for commercial PC platforms. The role focuses on building security into the full firmware lifecycle, including secure boot, cryptographic services, platform identity, device onboarding, and runtime threat mitigation. You will perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and design reviews while collaborating with hardware, BIOS, and cybersecurity teams to resolve vulnerabilities before product release. Key technical requirements include proficiency in C and Python, experience with Arm-based processors, and knowledge of RTOS concepts, memory protection, and secure multi-threaded firmware development. The role involves using tools like JTAG, SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes to debug security-relevant hardware interactions across interfaces such as UART, I2C, SPI, USB, and PCIe while ensuring compliance with industry standards for embedded systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop secure embedded software, firmware, and driver components for commercial PC platforms.
  • Define security requirements for firmware features, system interfaces, update mechanisms, and device identity flows.
  • Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and secure design reviews across embedded architectures.
  • Implement and validate capabilities such as secure boot, cryptographic protocols, and key management.
  • Investigate, reproduce, and resolve firmware vulnerabilities identified through testing, fuzzing, or static analysis.
  • Review code and technical specifications for compliance with security standards and secure coding practices.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation including security architecture, protocol definitions, and mitigation plans.
  • Drive improvements in embedded security through automation, CI/CD integration, and vulnerability scanning.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded software, firmware, driver development, or product security.
  • Proficiency in C and familiarity with Python, scripting, build automation, and security test tooling.
  • Experience with secure boot, bootloader architecture, firmware signing, verification, rollback protection, and update recovery mechanisms.
  • Expertise in embedded firmware debugging using JTAG, SWD, trace tools, and vulnerability analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of RTOS concepts, privilege separation, memory protection, and secure multi-threaded firmware development.
  • Ability to read schematics and identify hardware security assumptions or constraints based on basic analog/digital electronics knowledge.
  • Experience with embedded security architecture, device identity, secure provisioning, and cryptographic implementations (preferred).
