As a System Security Engineer, you will join the team to support mission-critical cybersecurity and systems security engineering efforts for expeditionary and combat platforms. You will be responsible for designing and developing secure-by-design capabilities, integrating zero-trust principles, and implementing proactive threat-mitigation strategies to protect maritime systems. Your daily work involves coordinating with in-house teams and OEMs to translate IT needs into actionable plans, performing vulnerability lifecycle management, and conducting acquisition system authorization activities. You will utilize tools and frameworks including Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, STIG viewer, eMASS, Tenable, ACAS, and DLP platforms while managing tasks in Confluence and Jira. The role focuses on solving complex security challenges for Navy and Marine Corps systems to ensure technical resilience and compliance with Department of War standards across the platform lifecycle.

What you'll do

  • Identify and implement methods to harden systems and reduce the attack surface of maritime platforms.
  • Design and develop secure-by-design capabilities for Navy and Marine Corps expeditionary systems.
  • Integrate zero-trust principles and proactive threat-mitigation strategies into complex government infrastructures.
  • Manage the end-to-end vulnerability lifecycle and perform acquisition system authorization activities.
  • Ensure all systems maintain compliance with RMF, NIST 800-53, and other Department of War standards.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and internal teams to select tools and remediate security findings.
  • Develop technical plans for media protection, access control, and incident response.
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning and risk assessments to ensure mission-focused mitigation strategies.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years of experience with systems security engineering and RMF supporting DON or DoW programs.
  • Experience with cybersecurity engineering including analysis, design, integration, testing, and sustainment of secure architectures.
  • Experience with DoW compliance frameworks and tools such as Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53, STIG viewer, and eMASS.
  • Experience supporting vulnerability scanning, remediation workflows, and risk assessments.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Intermediate Certification such as Security+ Certification.
  • Experience with cybersecurity tools like Tenable, ACAS, and DLP platforms (preferred); experience reviewing plans like Media Protection or Incident Response Plans (preferred).
