TL;DR · System Electrical Architect (Input Devices)
As the System Electrical Architect (Input Devices), you will join a team dedicated to designing and defining the future of trackpads, keyboards, and next-generation interfaces for the Mac product line. You will lead electrical architecture from blank-page concepts through proof-of-concept prototypes to mass production, transforming user experience challenges into hardware solutions. Your daily work involves collaborating with mechanical and firmware engineers to optimize system latency, manage power, and integrate high-precision sensing and haptic actuation within constrained form factors. You will utilize skills in schematic capture, component selection, and advanced lab tools like oscilloscopes and VNAs for validation. Technical expertise required includes I2C, I2S, SPI, USB, MIPI, PCIe, and Thunderbolt interfaces, alongside experience with HDI, fine-pitch BGA, and rigid-flex designs to solve complex signal integrity and power management issues in user-facing environments.
Skills
What you'll do
- Define and design electrical system architectures for trackpads, keyboards, and next-generation input devices.
- Develop hardware solutions from initial blank-page concepts through proof-of-concept prototypes to mass production.
- Partner with mechanical engineers to ensure structural and electrical harmony in constrained form factors.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to define hardware interfaces and optimize system latency.
- Resolve complex technical bottlenecks by making trade-offs between performance, power, space, and cost.
- Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations to resolve persistent system issues.
- Integrate high-precision sensing, haptic actuation, and power management into compact designs.
- Manage signal integrity, power integrity, and EMC challenges in user-facing environments.
What we're looking for
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in hardware system design or electrical architecture.
- Strong EE fundamentals including E&M physics and first principles.
- Experience in schematic capture and component selection across power, digital, analog, high-speed, and wireless domains.
- Knowledge of low-speed and high-speed digital interfaces such as I2C, I2S, SPI, USB, MIPI, PCIe, and Thunderbolt.
- Experience with highly constrained multilayer PCBs (HDI, fine-pitch BGA) and rigid-flex designs (Allegro preferred).
- Proficiency with advanced lab tools like high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, VNAs, and BERT for bring-up and validation.
- Proven track record of taking complex systems from concept to mass production while collaborating with FW, SW, and ME teams.
