Staff Software Engineer, Traffic

What you'll do

• Own the technical vision and strategy for a specific domain within the service mesh and edge tier.
• Lead the technical design of complex systems while weighing trade-offs and long-term implications.
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices to ensure operational excellence for owned systems.
• Solve ambiguous, cross-cutting problems and identify productivity improvements across the organization.
• Orchestrate project work by sequencing dependencies, identifying risks early, and adapting plans as needed.
• Partner with adjacent teams and stakeholders when your domain's direction impacts their systems.
• Coach and provide actionable feedback to other engineers to improve their technical judgment.

What we're looking for

• Experience owning the technical vision for a domain or system end-to-end in high-traffic production environments.
• Deep experience designing and building production systems code in a language like Go.
• Solid experience operating large-scale distributed systems on platforms like Kubernetes, Nomad, or ECS.
• A track record of establishing engineering best practices and coaching other engineers through mentorship and feedback.
• Ability to ramp quickly into unfamiliar technical domains and ship meaningful work using strong fundamentals.
• Pattern literacy across multiple infrastructure domains such as service meshes, edge proxies, and distributed storage (preferred).
• Strong systems-level debugging instincts and production intuition (preferred).
• Grounding in reliability engineering practices like SLO design, error budgets, and incident response (preferred).
