Staff Software Engineer, Ads & Core Serving Platform

What you'll do

• Set technical direction and lead architecture for major serving-platform initiatives across Ads and Core teams.
• Build and operate scalable, highly available distributed systems with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Translate complex requirements from product and ML teams into reusable platform capabilities.
• Modernize frameworks, evolve APIs, and improve observability and debugging tools for the serving stack.
• Lead complex projects end-to-end including technical strategy, design, implementation, and operational readiness.
• Use AI tools to accelerate analysis, debugging, and design exploration while ensuring engineering quality.
• Raise the quality bar through rigorous design reviews, code reviews, and documentation.
• Mentor engineers and scale technical leadership across the organization.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production backend or distributed systems.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across teams or organizations.
• Expertise in distributed systems, online serving, low-latency services, or infrastructure platforms.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Go, or Python.
• Ability to use AI to improve engineering workflows with a rigorous approach to testing and validation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with ads delivery, recommendation/search serving, retrieval, ranking, or experimentation systems (preferred).
• Experience with serving-framework migrations, platform consolidation, observability, or developer tooling (preferred).
