TL;DR · Staff Reliability Engineer

Staff Reliability Engineer The Staff Reliability Engineer joins the Reliability Engineering team to ensure autonomous systems survive real-world conditions and deliver consistent performance across the entire product lifecycle. This role involves collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to drive design robustness from early concept through production scale-up. Key responsibilities include performing predictive reliability analysis, conducting FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis, executing qualification and validation test plans, and leading root-cause failure investigations for field returns. The candidate will utilize technical standards such as MIL-HDBK-217Plus, MIL-HDBK-472, and MIL-STD-810 to manage hardware reliability and failure mechanisms. Essential skills include Weibull analysis, data-driven risk management, and the ability to build reliability infrastructure from the ground up. The role addresses critical technical challenges in defense domains including Air Dominance, Maritime systems, and Mission Autonomy for safety-critical hardware and software environments.

What you'll do

  • Lead Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to implement design improvements.
  • Perform predictive reliability analysis to calculate probability of loss of control and determine MTTF/MTBF metrics.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive qualification and validation test plans for environmental, life, and accelerated testing.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to validate assembly processes and optimize build reliability for production readiness.
  • Conduct Weibull analysis on data from qualification campaigns and fielded assets to identify failure trends.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for anomalies in the field or factory to drive corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop maintainability prediction models and support the creation of preventative maintenance and sparing plans.
  • Build standardized reliability infrastructure and tools to streamline design, manufacturing, and deployment operations.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 12 years experience as a Reliability Engineer, Design/Development Engineer, or Test Engineer.
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience with safety-critical hardware and software systems in the defense or aerospace industry.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-HDBK-217, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-516C, and MIL-STD-1629.
  • Expertise in reliability analysis techniques including FMEA/FMECA, predictive modeling, Weibull analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Experience establishing reliability frameworks for products, including support of production testing, field testing, and data analysis.
  • Proven track record in failure investigation, root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.
