As a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer - Sensor Cleaning at Uber AV Labs, you will lead the development of sensor cleaning systems for data collection vehicles to ensure cameras, LiDAR, and radar remain operational in harsh environments like rain, snow, ice, dust, mud, and insects. You will own the architecture from concept through production, designing components such as nozzles, manifolds, pumps, valves, tubing, reservoirs, and seals. The role requires applying fluid mechanics, thermal analysis, pneumatics, and first-principles engineering to optimize performance while managing technical tradeoffs regarding packaging, energy consumption, reliability, and manufacturability. You will utilize CAD, GD&T, and tolerance analysis to drive prototype builds and validation. This position addresses the critical challenge of maintaining perception sensor integrity in autonomous vehicle systems to capture high-quality, real-world driving data for autonomous partners.
