JOB TITLE: Staff Engineer - Technical Lead As a Staff Engineer - Technical Lead, you will join the Card Acquisitions engineering organization to lead the technical agenda for Discover Forward Deployed Engineering teams. You will work alongside developers, machine learning experts, and product managers to transform custom initiatives into modular, reusable enterprise capabilities. Your daily responsibilities include coding, delivering, and operating critical services while designing high-performance ecosystems and unified data schemas. You will serve as a trusted advisor on non-functional system characteristics like scalability and operability. The role requires expertise in Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Swift, alongside experience in microservices, API design, and distributed systems. You will solve complex credit decisioning problems, modernizing backend architectures to accelerate feature delivery for real-time transaction approvals and product offers.

What you'll do

Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for the Card Acquisitions domain.
Decompose complex business problems into practical, operational, and scalable software solutions.
Design, build, and maintain a resilient, high-performance ecosystem for credit decisioning systems.
Develop modular, reusable enterprise capabilities and extensible frameworks for FDE squads.
Write production code to deliver and operate critical services across diverse codebases.
Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional characteristics like performance, scalability, and operability.
Mentor internal talent and coach the engineering community to strengthen technical expertise.
Create technical communications, code samples, and blog posts to share knowledge across the organization.

What we're looking for

At least 7 years of experience in Software engineering and solution architecture.
At least 7 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns.
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
8+ years of experience in software engineering, distributed systems architecture, or platform engineering (preferred).
4+ years of experience with API design, microservices architecture, and platform evolution in high availability, high throughput environments (preferred).
7+ years of professional experience coding in languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Swift (preferred).
7+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development (preferred).
