What you'll do

  • Lead the technical execution of complex integration and instrumentation for large test assets from concept to functional capability.
  • Perform hands-on build, modification, and wiring for power, avionics, networking, and sensor payload integration.
  • Own the technical approach and results for the most complex integration work to shape RIT's technical direction.
  • Serve as a recognized technical authority to influence decisions on complex integrations across business lines and partner programs.
  • Set technical direction and mentor team members as they take on larger, more complex platforms.
  • Develop and execute streamlined test plans while ensuring adherence to baseline safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide regular situation reports (SITREPs) and participate in weekly stand-ups to update leadership on progress.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Typically 12+ years of relevant experience as a seasoned expert in the field.
  • Deep hands-on UxS engineering expertise including build, integration, and modification of power, avionics, and networking.
  • Experience taking complex hardware/software systems from concept through flight test.
  • In-depth knowledge of Pixhawk autopilot systems and the ArduPilot stack.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, laser cutting, and composite materials.
  • Practical experience with small UAS/drones and understanding of National Airspace System regulations.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, robotics, or computer science (preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with RC helicopters or UAVs including piloting and maintenance (preferred).
  • Familiarity with rotary-wing aerodynamics and flight control systems (preferred).
  • Autonomy/robotics programming in Python, C++, ROS, and FAA Part 107 (preferred).
