The Staff Developer Platform Engineer joins the Developer Platform & Enablement team to drive infrastructure, pipeline, and deployment excellence across engineering organizations. You will own infrastructure and release-safety work, including GitLab operations, build/release operations, and AI SDLC systems. Key responsibilities involve designing pipeline orchestration and progressive-delivery systems using Argo Rollouts and Kargo, managing third-party connector DevOps, and contributing to FinOps tooling. You will build self-service tools for safe deployment, database change management, and ephemeral environments while mentoring engineers on infrastructure best practices. Required expertise includes GitLab administration at scale within GCP/GKE, Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud infrastructure. You must translate architectural direction into technical plans, using product-management-adjacent skills to drive org-wide adoption of platform tooling for large, distributed cloud systems.
Manage GitLab at scale within GCP/GKE, including governance, permissions, runners, and pipeline infrastructure.
Design and implement pipeline orchestration and progressive-delivery systems using Argo Rollouts and Kargo.
Provide DevOps support for third-party connectors, including build, release, and deployment pipelines.
Develop and oversee deployment safety practices, including rollback/roll-forward guidance and database change management.
Build and evangelize self-service tooling for safe deployment, recovery practices, and AI SDLC systems.
Coach and mentor engineers on deployment safety, pipeline design, and infrastructure best practices.
Translate architectural directions into concrete technical plans and execute hands-on infrastructure improvements.
Drive org-wide adoption of platform tooling through roadmapping and stakeholder alignment.
What we're looking for
8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps/Platform Engineer, or SRE with demonstrated Staff-level scope and impact.
Deep, hands-on experience administering GitLab or a comparable SCM/CI platform at scale, ideally within a self-hosted ecosystem like GCP/GKE or AWS/EKS/EC2.
Proven experience designing and operating CI/CD pipeline and orchestration systems, including progressive-delivery tooling like Argo Rollouts or Kargo.
Strong track record managing safe deployment, rollback, and recovery processes for large, distributed cloud systems, including database change management.
Solid understanding of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud infrastructure, with a preference for GCP.
Experience coaching and mentoring engineers and driving adoption of new tooling and practices across teams.
Ability to participate in meetings with US-based and EMEA-based teams outside of standard local hours.
