The Sr. Principal Avionics Technician joins the Avionics Engineering Organization to support the Integrated Navigation Cockpit Display System team. This role involves researching, designing, developing, and testing electronic equipment and avionics systems including Flight Management Computers, Primary Flight Displays, and Control Display Units. The technician will perform integration and testing in laboratories and on aircraft for ground support, design lab bench test cables, and create hardware test processes and procedures. Key responsibilities include supporting hardware analysis for maintainability and reliability while drafting technical requirements for procurement. Required skills include experience with flight avionics hardware, wiring, cabling, and connector work; proficiency in Linux-based computers and data-acquisition hardware; and knowledge of networking protocols like 1553, Ethernet, RS-232, and ARINC-429. The role addresses the technical challenge of integrating complex electronics into aircraft systems for mission success.
Integrate prime mission equipment into laboratories and aircraft for ground support testing.
Design lab bench test cables and utilize specialized tools to support hardware testing.
Support hardware analysis regarding product maintainability, reliability, safety, and material sources.
Assist engineers in creating detailed equipment requirements for procurement documentation.
Develop hardware test processes and procedures following corporate guidelines and templates.
Create test procedures and processes specifically for equipment qualification testing.
Configure and verify communication between hardware, software, and networking elements.
Diagnose and resolve issues across electronic, mechanical, and software domains.
What we're looking for
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of additional education and/or related experience.
Must have an active US Government Secret clearance with a background investigation within the past 6 years.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Must have experience in flight avionics hardware, networking standards, and protocols such as 1553, Ethernet, RS-232, and ARINC-429.
Must have experience with electrical systems, including wire and harness repair and fabrication.
Must be proficient in wiring, cabling, connector work, Linux-based computer configuration, and data-acquisition hardware.
Must be able to connect, configure, and verify communication between hardware, software, and networking elements while diagnosing issues across domains.
Some college in a STEM field or related certificate (preferred); 5+ years of integration and testing experience (preferred).
