TL;DR · Spatial Intelligence Architect

The Spatial Intelligence Architect joins the Robotics team to define the spatial-reasoning architecture for autonomous machines. This role focuses on transforming upstream environmental inputs into precise motion and implement planning, ensuring machines can reason about space, terrain, reach, and their own footprint to execute work on job sites. The architect is responsible for designing technical infrastructure, including databases and programming languages, while establishing standards for task and motion planning, spatially grounded VLA, and behavior generation. Key requirements include expertise in spatial reasoning, real-time motion planning, and autonomous systems decision architecture. Candidates must possess skills in application design, platform architecture, and requirement analysis within an Agile SDLC and public cloud ecosystem. The role solves the complex challenge of construction autonomy by creating intelligent systems that allow machines to perceive their environment and perform coordinated movements for industrial tasks.

What you'll do

  • Define the spatial-reasoning architecture to enable autonomous machines to reason about space, terrain, reach, and their own footprint.
  • Design systems that translate upstream environmental inputs into precise motion plans for machine tools like buckets, blades, or booms.
  • Develop technical infrastructure including specific databases, programming languages, and testing approaches to solve complex business problems.
  • Establish standards and interfaces for robotics components while managing the integration of planning, controls, and behavior generation.
  • Create architectural roadmaps and IT blueprints that align technology decisions with long-term business strategies and objectives.
  • Lead the evaluation and deployment of new technologies to enhance existing digital capabilities across autonomous systems.
  • Define architectural patterns and guide engineering teams through complex design decisions regarding motion planning and embodied AI.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in software engineering and architecture with a focus on autonomy, motion planning, or robotics at a senior or principal level.
  • Knowledge of application design, architecture principles, and methods to convert business requirements into technical designs.
  • Ability to design platform architectures, including processing mechanisms, roadmaps, and interfaces for end-user access.
  • Proficiency in requirement analysis to elicit and record functional and non-functional requirements for software projects.
  • Ability to develop IT blueprints and target architecture roadmaps aligned with business strategies.
  • Strong experience architecting spatial reasoning and real-time motion planning for physical machines or autonomous vehicles (preferred).
  • Experience planning coordinated motion of an actuated implement or manipulator, such as a bucket, blade, boom, or robot arm (preferred).
  • Familiarity with spatially grounded VLA, embodied AI, and behavior generation from spatial reasoning (preferred).
