Software Engineer, SD-WAN Security

What you'll do

• Develop and integrate advanced security features like Firewall, IPS/IDS, and Content Filtering into the SD-WAN fabric.
• Design and develop robust security software for Cisco's routing portfolio across diverse deployment modes.
• Write clean, maintainable C/C++ code with unit tests while performing peer code reviews.
• Author functional and design specifications to translate complex technical challenges into elegant solutions.
• Mentor and guide junior team members in a player-coach model to foster technical excellence.
• Utilize modern development workflows and AI-assisted coding tools to improve engineering productivity.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and develop embedded software for large-scale network infrastructure.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree plus 5 years experience, Master's plus 3 years, or PhD with no experience required.
• Experience in C/C++ production programming with a focus on efficient algorithms and optimized code.
• Experience or related coursework in Network Security domains and common deployment scenarios.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools like Copilot, Claude, or Codex to improve productivity.
• Experience in debugging, troubleshooting, and embedded software development.
• Professional experience or coursework in Layer 3 and Layer 4 networking technologies (preferred).
• Experience working in cross-functional and distributed teams (preferred).
• Ability to adapt quickly and solve problems in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities (preferred).
