As a Software Development Manager, LEO Operation Automation, you will lead and manage a diverse team of engineers to develop distributed software systems for the Kuiper mission. You will be responsible for the team’s roadmap, gathering customer requirements, project prioritization, and ensuring high-quality system delivery. Your daily work involves building and maintaining tooling systems used for operation automation, including launch, on-orbit demonstration, and constellation automation across both satellite and ground components. You will provide technical guidance in complex environments, mentor engineers, and coordinate resources to ensure mission success. The role requires expertise in software engineering practices, design patterns, reliability, and scaling. You will solve critical problems regarding fleet productivity and operational excellence by developing performant front-end and back-end systems that support the management of device configurations and assets across a satellite constellation.
Own the team roadmap and ensure the execution of strategic visions for operation automation tools.
Gather customer requirements and prioritize projects to ensure system delivery meets mission goals.
Mentor and develop engineers while providing technical guidance on complex, broadly scoped projects.
Build and maintain distributed software systems for launch, on-orbit demonstration, and constellation automation.
Coordinate with ground and space engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions for the Kuiper mission.
Drive operational excellence by identifying system improvements and increasing fleet productivity.
Communicate across multiple teams to identify product risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Manage team growth expectations and organizational strategy while juggling multiple high-priority tasks.
What we're looking for
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum for export control compliance.
At least 3 years of experience managing engineering teams is required.
At least 7 years of experience working directly within engineering teams is required.
At least 3 years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
Experience partnering with product or program management teams is required.
Knowledge of full software/hardware/networks development life cycle practices such as coding standards, code reviews, and build processes is preferred.
Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements and describe product strategy is preferred.
Experience delivering products in fast-paced, multi-disciplined, and ambiguous environments is preferred.
