The Senior Software Engineer - Network Engineer joins the Virtualization team within the Secure Production Access group. This role focuses on modernizing secure access experiences and scaling internal products to ensure service resilience and compliance. You will design, implement, and manage Azure network infrastructure, including virtual networks, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute circuits, and load balancers. Key responsibilities include configuring firewalls, proxy servers, and enforcing security policies while performing root-cause analysis for complex network incidents. You will develop automation scripts and tooling using PowerShell, Python, and Bicep to implement infrastructure-as-code practices. The role requires proficiency in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, or JavaScript. You will solve technical problems related to high-availability network architectures, dynamic routing protocols like BGP, and overall network performance optimization.
Design, implement, and manage Azure virtual networks and connectivity solutions to ensure high availability and scalability.
Configure and administer network firewalls, proxy servers, and VPNs while enforcing security policies.
Develop automation scripts and tooling using PowerShell, Python, or Bicep to streamline network configurations and deployments.
Implement infrastructure-as-code practices to ensure consistency and efficiency across network updates.
Serve as the Tier 3 escalation point for complex network incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
Analyze network performance and security postures to implement optimizations for throughput and reliability.
Ensure all network operations comply with organizational security standards and regulatory requirements.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (or equivalent experience).
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including a Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (preferred).
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages like C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python (preferred).
7+ years of professional experience in software/network engineering roles with a focus on cloud networking and network security (preferred).
Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking components, including Virtual Networks, VPN Gateways, ExpressRoute, NSGs, and load balancers (preferred).
Experience implementing high-availability network architectures and expertise with dynamic routing protocols like BGP (preferred).
Relevant industry certifications such as AZ-700, AZ-104, Azure Solutions Architect, CCNA/CCNP, or CompTIA Security+ (preferred).
