Senior Software Engineer, Navigation Intelligence & Applied ML

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and maintain navigation features and services within the Apple Maps application.
• Develop and deploy machine learning models that power real-time guidance and personalized navigation experiences.
• Implement diverse technical approaches ranging from heuristics to deep learning to adapt guidance to user context.
• Write high-performance, reliable production code in C++ for both on-device and backend environments.
• Build data pipelines to support continuous model evaluation and improvement.
• Translate customer needs into technical machine learning solutions through cross-functional collaboration.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and participate in rigorous design and code reviews.

What we're looking for

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience building large-scale, production-grade machine learning applications.
• Proven experience applying applied machine learning to solve complex problems like personalization, recommendation, or sequence modeling.
• Ability to write complex, highly-performant, clean, and maintainable code in C++.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
• Experience with ML techniques for navigation, geospatial data, or time-series context (preferred).
• Familiarity with privacy-preserving machine learning approaches like federated learning or differential privacy (preferred).
• Experience with deep learning frameworks, Python tools, and scalable data architectures such as Spark, Kafka, or Kubernetes (preferred).
