Senior Software Engineer, Navigation Intelligence & Applied ML

What you'll do

• Design and maintain navigation features and services within the Apple Maps application.
• Develop and deploy machine learning models to power intelligent, context-aware navigation experiences.
• Implement high-performance production code in C++ for both backend services and on-device environments.
• Apply diverse technical approaches, from heuristics to deep learning, to personalize user journeys.
• Build data pipelines to support continuous model evaluation and improvement.
• Translate customer needs into technical machine learning solutions through cross-functional collaboration.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and participate in rigorous design and code reviews.

What we're looking for

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience building large-scale, production-grade machine learning applications.
• Proven experience applying machine learning to solve complex problems like personalization, recommendation, or sequence modeling.
• Ability to write complex, high-performance, and maintainable code in C++.
• Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software architecture.
• Experience with ML techniques applied to navigation, geospatial data, or time-series context.
• Familiarity with privacy-preserving machine learning approaches like federated learning or differential privacy.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks and Python for data exploration and pipeline development.
