What you'll do

Build and operate the control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases like MySQL and TiDB.
Automate database provisioning, failover, backups, and upgrades end-to-end.
Design and execute zero-downtime schema and data migrations across multi-tenant database clusters.
Own and tune the networking stack for services connecting to storage on Kubernetes.
Create and monitor metrics to support the operations and availability of team artifacts.
Set and improve code review and design standards to foster a culture of quality.
Lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and deliver quarterly goals.
Provide feedback and guidance to develop the technical talent on the team.

What we're looking for

You have a total of 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
You have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
You are experienced in designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
You have in-depth, hands-on experience with large-scale database deployments in a production environment.
You have expertise in distributed databases such as MySQL (preferred), TiDB (preferred), Postgres, Spanner, Vitess, or CockroachDB.
You have a solid understanding of distributed database architecture, data modeling, and performance tuning.
You have expertise in database benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
You are familiar with connection poolers and proxies such as ProxySQL, RDS Proxy, Pg Bouncer, and PgDog.
